Counselor - Lanier Middle School
My name is Peggy Slocum. I am happy and extremely excited to introduce myself as the counselor at Lanier Middle School. ROAR! Go LIONS!
I grew up in El Paso, Texas and from there spent 25 years in Midland, Texas raising a family, teaching 7th graders, being a High School Counselor, Middle School and Elementary SOS Counselor. The last 7 years I was a counselor for Waco ISD. My husband and I both come from large families, and we currently have a whopping 9 grand children with one on the way!
The world is ever changing and children are faced with overwhelming media exposure, peer pressure and technology advances. In addition they must cope with not only growing up but the many factors that contribute to a stressful environment at home and at school.
A very close friend told me a long time ago: “Give a child a fish and he eats for a day: TEACH a child to fish and he eats for a lifetime”. The counseling program at Lanier Middle School will teach students positive character traits, the importance of respecting others, dealing with peer pressure, making choices, the effects of drugs and alcohol, testing strategies, and careers----to name a few.
My goal is to guide your children through proactive guidance lessons to achieve success in their academic, career and personal/social development. I have a deep passion for empowering students to help themselves. Thank you in advance for trusting all of us at Lanier with your children. I am always available if you need to talk with me about your child.
